Our vocabulary lesson for the day …

lenticularclouds-001-smallerLenticular Clouds” … are these awesome, or what?!

I had to go home and get my camera after seeing these clouds forming over Mount Rainier throughout the afternoon yesterday.  People were almost getting into accidents all over town because they were so focused on what was happening with the clouds and the mountain.

By the time I’d grabbed my camera and driven to a place where I could see the show (the Auburn SuperMall’s parking lot), it was sunset.  Hence the glowing colors (but the clouds had started to soften a bit and aren’t quite as pronounced and dramatic as they were earlier in the day).

Be sure to click on this link to see more photos from other KOMO TV viewers and a description of what causes this to happen.  If you don’t have a mountain of the height and magnitude of Mt. Rainier in your backyard, you’ll probably never see something like this in your area.  Sorry.  ;-)
